Top seed Pusarla V. Sindhu picked up her first title since August 2019 claiming the Syed Modi India International 2022 with a comfortable win over compatriot Malvika Bansod.

After her World Championships win in 2019, Pusarla had finished runner-up in two tournaments – at the Swiss Open 2021 and the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals 2021. Yesterday she was never in danger,  holding a lead all through the match and closing it out 21-13 21-16.

“From the first game I just went for the win and every point mattered. I didn’t take it easy at all. I had to be consistent. Overall it’s been a good week and I’m happy. Every medal means a lot to me,” said Pusarla.

“There are some talented young Indian players coming up and I’m sure they’ll do well. It was good to play Malvika. She’s been playing well.”

It was a good day for Malaysia as they returned with two titles. Man Wei Chong/Kai Wun Tee won the men’s doubles, while Anna Ching Yik Cheong/Teoh Mei Xing claimed the women’s doubles.

Man/Tee were up against local duo Krishna Prasad Garaga/Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala in the men’s doubles final, with the Malaysians shooting past them after 13-all in the second to claim the title, 21-18 21-15.

The women’s doubles final was a more one-sided affair, as Cheong/Teoh overpowered India’s Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand Pullela 21-12 21-13.

“We prepared well as we had lost to them earlier. We knew the match would be tough. We didn’t think too much, we just tried to play our best,” said Teoh.

The mixed doubles was an all-Indian contest. Ishaan Bhatnagar/Tanisha Crasto prevailed over Hema Nagendra Babu/Srivedya Gurazada 21-16 21-12.
