An Seyoung’s quest to lift her first Korea Open title got off to a roaring start at the Palma Stadium in Suncheon, where she cruised past India’s Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli.

The 20-year-old, who could not clear the first round on debut in 2019, this time took only 27 minutes to win her Korea Open 2022 opener 21-5 21-13.

She next faces Singaporean Yeo Jia Min, an opponent she has not lost to in four games since 2020.

Winner of the 2017 edition Pusarla V. Sindhu, who is in the same half of the draw, also sealed her progress following a 21-15 21-14 victory over American Lauren Lam.

Canadian Michelle Li was the only seed (No.8) to exit on Day 2 – a 12-21 21-15 13-21 loss to Saena Kawakami ending her journey in the opening round.

NOTEWORTHY:

• Son Wanho, in his first match since All England Open 2020, defeated Jason Teh Jia Heng in three games.
• His world No.58 countryman Lee Dong Keun however, suffered a shock straight games defeat to 118th-ranked 22-year-old Czech Jan Louda.
• Israeli veteran Misha Zilberman registered his maiden men’s singles victory over a Chinese shuttler – Li Shi Feng – at the ripe age of 33.
