Interestingly, half of the top 10 and 11 of the top 20 prize money earners are women.
World No.1 An’s incredible season has seen her make nine finals on the HSBC BWF World Tour, boosting her earnings well ahead of the second-placed Viktor Axelsen (US$270,195).
The only other player to make over a quarter million US dollars in prize money is Malaysia Open winner Akane Yamaguchi, who has won US$259,190.
Mixed doubles world champions Zheng Si Wei and Huang Ya Qiong, winners of all three Super 1000 events (Malaysia Open, All England and Indonesia Open), are in joint sixth place with US$154,828 each.
The highest earning doubles player is Baek Ha Na, who is in eighth place with US$145,021. Her compatriot Seo Seung Jae has the highest combined earnings from two categories (men’s and mixed doubles), and is 20th overall with US$112,850.
